Okay, so I'm looking for a program for my handheld (Dell Axim X30, Windows CE) which handles simple text files. The thing is, I want to be able to add tags to these text files, to help things remain organized. (Tags: google main, delicious).

I also want a desktop version that will sync with my pda. Is this too difficult to ask for? = )

Gr, maybe I should finally get down to business and learn programming...

Any suggestions?

No idea on the WinCE front, but I'm looking to organise myself through text files over the coming months, and am wondering if I can get away with something extremely simple - like just denoting tags manually in text (e.g. "[_stuff_]") - and then having a really simple search script that basically just greps through everything.

Depends on grep-like commands though, so YMMV...

Can anyone see any major drawbacks with this other than scalability perhaps?

I emailed the folks at TreePad and asked if they were going to come out with a version for handhelds. The rep. said in the next year they will. In the mean time, however, we could use this:

      www.realtimetools.com/NoteTree.htm

It is compatible with TreePad files.

I used FreeMind on my desktop for brainstorming. It's free, and very, very cool. I wanted to take this with me also, and someone offered this suggestion: Instead of having a version of FreeMind for pda, just use a Word file. Make an outline (the screen really isnt big enough for brainstorming in a mind map) and use tabs to indent new layers.

Then, sync with the desktop. Then, highlight the outline and drag it into FreeMind. FM will automatically convert the outline into a visual mind map! = )
